A Personal Statement From Jessie

"2020 has been very eventful. Heartbreaking but also an eye opener. I believe everything in life happens for a reason and it is either a blessing or a lesson. Racism isn’t new; we must use our voices, our platforms and resources to speak up and fight for a change. I am grateful for the advancement of technology because it has become more accessible. I urge people to take care of themselves, because this has been difficult. I can’t help but to think about all the injustice that has not been caught on film. How many more lives? The system needs to change because it was never designed to protect BIPOC. DEFUND THE POLICE and the system needs to be intersectional. Equality is beyond race; it’s also the need to create more opportunities, jobs, access to housing, education, etc. for marginalized and oppressed groups. Music is my peace and my space of healing. That is why I love performing, I love inspiring and touching people. It is important for me that my culture also reflects in my music. Black people, you are loved, you are beautiful, and YOU MATTER. We are in this together, #BLACKLIVESMATTER"
